Ackermann, Max
*1887 Berlin (GER) - †1975 Unterlengenhardt, Schwarzwald (GER)Max Ackermann is rightly regarded as a master of broken color fields. After the end of the war, he was the first German artist to open up to screen printing for the production of his prints. For Ackermann, who preferred to execute his pastels with chalk, a printing technique was needed that would allow the grainy, chalky coloration he so loved to be graphically perfect.
Together with the brilliant silk-screen printers Domberger and Haas, Ackermann perfected this printing technique to such an extent that it took up an elementary place in his late work - with it, his color surface concepts could finally be realized with greater perfection and consistency than with the methods and tools of painting.
