Manessier, Alfred

*1911 Saint-Ouen (France) – †1993 Orléans (France)

Like Bazaine, Singier and Bissière (his teacher at the Académie Ranson), Manessier stood on the border between abstract and figurative painting at the École de Paris. In his paintings, the figurative is no longer identifiable, without it being possible to call them completely abstract for that reason. Manessier received the Painter's Prize at the 1953 Sao Paulo Biennale.
