Frontispiece for "Élégie des alizés" (Elegy of the Trade Winds)
A couple that seems to be talking to an ibis passing through (often called a "holy ibis") is shown on this extraordinarily rare print by Chagall. According to the catalogue raisonné, the four lithographs, created by the artist about this subject in 1969, are his only works featuring the exotic animal. The captivating original colour lithograph was printed on laid paper by Arches as the frontispiece for the volume by L.S. Senghor, mentioned above.
