Details:"Quatre oiseaux" (Four birds) In Georges Braque’s works of his late, wise years, no subject was more important to him than birds (his first etching registered with Mourlot named "Oiseau I" was created in 1950). For ornithologists, a bird is nothing more than "a vertebrate species with wings, feathers and a bill". However, as Braque got older, birds must have become the embodiment of eternity (as well as of finiteness), nature and the greatest possible freedom for him. Up to his death, he painted innumerable works with birds in front of ever new backgrounds, in all possible positions and variations. This work is a gorgeous, small lithograph with four birds in front of a grey background, characteristic for Braque.
