Details:"Printemps" (Springtime) One of Chagall's outstanding talents lay in developing fairy-tale, surreal scenes and making them appear as if they were reality. In this painting, we meet a goat in human form holding a violin in his arms. He has interrupted his playing to talk to the charming girl who has seated herself on his shoulder and seems to be flirting with him. It is spring, without any doubt. This graceful lithograph in colors titled "Spring" was Chagall's contribution to the 1938 art magazine Verve published by the French publisher Tériade. Three other well-known artists contributed to the other seasons: Paul Klee with the print "Winter", Joan Miró with "Summer" and Abraham Rattner with "Autumn".
