We can only guess why Braque was so fascinated by the common swift that he even dedicated a painting to the bird. We like to think that Braque was fascinated - just like we are - by the fact that this bird spends most of its time in the air. It spends almost all of its life flying. It mates in flight and even spends the night in the air. It is a brilliant artist of the sky... a fact that must have made a great impression on the perfectionist painter.
 
Technique: Lithograph printed in five colors
This is N O T a mass-produced reprint (photomechanical reproduction such as offset lithographs or giclée prints) but the lithograph from 1959, lithographed and printed by Mourlot after a painting by the artist.
Size / Paper: 38 x 28 cm / 15" x 11" (sheet) - 10 x 21 cm / 4" x 8.3" (image), printed on velin paper with text on the reverse, as published in 1959 in DLM "Braque"
Year: 1959
Edition: One of about 3000 impressions from the unsigned edition. In addition, 275 impressions on wove paper with full margins were pulled and pencil-signed by the artist.
