Details:"Citole", 1976 As so often in the years before and after, Friedlaender was also preoccupied with challenging "musical" themes in 1976. He created a series of five etchings as a tribute to "Studio der frühen Musik" (Studio of Early Music), a German ensemble of four musicians who specialized in medieval music. For the color aquatint offered here, Friedlaender chose to depict an abstract citole, a lute-like plucked instrument. It is a visually captivating artistic bridge between the two disciplines of painting and music.
