| | Details:Sunday ("Le Dimanche") In Paris, Chagall encountered a school of painting completely new to him. During his first couple of years in Paris, he enjoyed wandering around the city, which exhilarated him, and used it as an inspiration instead of taking up a formal training course at one of the academies of arts. During his rambles, he absorbed colours, smells and different kinds of atmosphere, which he kept in his mind and recalled for his paintings throughout his life. In his lithograph "Le Dimanche", Chagall invites us for a stroll through 'his' Paris – he guides us over Pont Neuf (bottom right-hand corner), past Notre Dame, and to the Eiffel Tower, in order to finally float up to Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. But he reserves the biggest share for love, to be seen in the couple embracing each other amidst this abundance of impressions.
