"Le concert"

Chagall's great enthusiasm for music inspired the artist to not only create the famous ceiling of the Paris Opera house but to execute this theme in many of his original lithographs and etchings. In this delicately drawn lithograph from the year 1957, numerous details can be discovered: people who sing in a choir or play their instruments, flanked by typical "Chagall animals" as well as the devoutly listening auditorium. All this takes place at the Paris Opera House, what can easily be identified by the Eiffel Tower sketched in the right part of the picture.
