Original Artists' Posters

In this section you will find - bit by bit - valuable original artists’ posters from the legendary printing press of Mourlot, Paris, as well as further original posters of a variety of distinguished international artists. Most of the prints are posters advertising exhibitions of art galleries or museums for which the respective artist especially crafted an original graphic - for the most part they are original lithographs, but etchings, woodcuts or linocuts and serigraphs can also be found.

Collectors of artists’ posters from last century consider original posters to be the supreme discipline within the broader field of original graphics. Especially Mourlot’s posters, valuable original graphics which have become very rare, are sought-after historical documents.

Just like "ordinary" print graphics, original posters from important artists are usually recorded in works catalogues: either as part of especially issued oeuvre catalogues of orginal posters (e.g. for Picasso’s, Miro’s, Chagall’s and Mavignier’s posters), or as part of their catalogues of graphic oeuvre (Braque, Ernst, Léger, Chillida, Friedlaender, Wunderlich, Estève, Soulages and many more). Publications concerning artists’ posters like Fernand Mourlot’s volumes or Herbert Fritz Lempert’s wonderful catalogues are also helpful for identifying posters as original posters or original graphics. Dr. Lempert was one of the first Germans to recognise the importance of original artists' posters.
