Details:"In the black circle" (Dans le cercle noir) - 1960 Will Grohmann describes in his biography "Wassily Kandinsky - Leben und Werk" (Wassily Kandinsky - Life and Work) that the circular form took on an increasingly dominant role in Kandinsky's paintings during the twenties. In a letter to Grohmann in 1930, the artist explained his fascination: "Among the three primary forms (triangle, square, circle), it [the circle] is the clearest directive to the fourth dimension". The biographer takes up this thought again many years later in his analysis of the work: "In the black circle he places in the base a second circular. One within which the formal process takes place, somewhat reminiscent of a landscape on another planet". The lithograph offered here was printed by Mourlot in 1960 and published in the avant-garde magazine DLM "Kandinsky 1921-1927" in the same year.
